Beauty Rest

Written By Samantha Dym, Contributing Author.

You’d be surprised at just how many people only sleep for about four hours a night. Is it healthy? Absolutely not… but some people just can’t seem to get the rest they truly need. Sleep has so many benefits. In fact, did you know that between the hours of 11pm and 4am our skin repairs and restores damaged cells? If we skip out on the much needed seven to eight hours of sleep, our skin can develop acne as well as other problems. Sleep deprivation contributes to headaches, obesity, and depression. Sleeping can improve your memory, lower stress, and promote longevity, among other benefits. In a 2010 study of too little and too much sleep… the University of Warwick (U.K.) found that  in women ages 50 to 79, more deaths occurred in those who got less than five hours or more than six and a half hours of sleep per night.

We understand that it’s hard to fit everything into one day and that you often have to stretch the days as long as you can to get things done. But, your health should come first. Try grabbing a good book to read in bed or listen to some soft low music. This can help you relax and fall asleep faster. Try to avoid caffeinated products at least three hours before bed. And, if your sleep deprivation continues… you may want to contact your family physician to schedule a physical exam.

Dermatologists recommend maintaining an evening routine, and getting plenty of sleep. Click here to check out Nanci’s personal skin care routine, which includes methods used in the morning and at night with NCN Skin Care Professional products.
