Full Spectrum UVA/UVB/UVC and Blue Light Protection!

I’m excited to tell you that I’m Covered has been reformulated to offer full spectrum UVA/UVB/UVC and blue light (HEVL) protection. The SPF factor has gone up from 32 to 40. Zinc Oxide has been added to strengthen the existing UVA (aging rays) defense; and it provides UVC protection as well.

What can blue light do to our skin?

Blue light

Most blue light we’re exposed to is from the sun, but it’s also coming from being plugged in.   Blue light can cause photo-aging – just like UVA can. Not only that, it can cause age spots, hyperpigmentation, and skin damaging inflammation. Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Extract has been added to the formula since it protects against blue light, is an antioxidant that fights off free radicals, and it boosts collagen.

Do we need UVC protection too?

UVC rays are absorbed by the ozone layer and are believed to never reach us. Recent reports of holes in the ozone layer can allow UVC rays to get through. Old style tanning beds used to have UVC rays as well as welding torches and mercury lamps. Not anymore- but please don’t go there!

What about infrared radiation?

I added Zinc Oxide to the formula mostly because of its ability to defend our skin against UVA rays better than any other ingredient. But it also protects against blue light and infrared radiation. The formula is a little thicker due to the Zinc Oxide; it still doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin, but I find I have to massage it into my eyebrows more now. People with darker skin tones or men who have beards will need to massage it into their skin more than the former I’m Covered.

TIP: Adding pigment drops to I’m Covered Mineral Full Spectrum SPF 40 turns it into the best makeup foundation! I mix in 4 drops and honestly, I love it! For less coverage you can use 2-3 drops. There are several companies that make pigment drops, the one I really like is by No7 (it DOES have parabens in it though). If I find one that I love that’s paraben free, I’ll let you know!
