You know what they say… you are what you eat. That’s why it’s so important for us to not only be good to our bodies on the outside… but to take care of the inside as well. People who tend to eat greasier, fried foods end up with oily and/ or damaged skin. Some even develop acne over long periods of time. Spinach – Popeye loves spinach and now we know why. The bounty of vitamins and minerals in this vegetable can bring you quick relief from dry, itchy skin and give you a radiant complexion. Regular consumption of fresh, organic spinach juice has been shown to improve skin health dramatically. A study published in the International Journal of Cancer found that people who ate the most spinach developed half as many skin tumors over an 11 year span as those who ate the smallest amount. That’s likely because the folate in spinach helps maintain and repair DNA, reducing the possibility of cancer-cell growth.
Carrots – Don’t like leafy green veggies? You can still get your Vitamin A with carrots. This vegetable can also improve your vision because of the beta-carotene it contains, which is converted into Vitamin A in the liver… then transformed in the retina, to rhodopsin, a purple pigment necessary for night vision. The high level of beta-carotene acts as an antioxidant to cell damage done to the body through regular metabolism. It help slows down the aging of cells. Vitamin A and antioxidants protect the skin from sun damage. Now that we know all of these interesting facts about this veggie… we can say that Bugs Bunny was right in choosing carrots as his favorite snack!
